San Francisco {Part 2}

I am a total food junkie. While I love to cook I also love to find those amazing restaurants and give them all my money so I can eat everything there. I can say that SF had more than their fair share of these places! I knew that I needed to go to Tartine for a chocolate croissant. I knew that I had to have brunch because SF does brunch. The boy, ahem the husband, had to have Chinese food.

I still can’t stop dreaming about the croissant from Tartine. There was a long line to wait in but I knew that it was going to be worth it. We weren’t hungry since we’d just come from brunch. We finally get to the counter and I was overwhelmed by the aromas of everything there. We picked up a chocolate croissant (huge mistake. should have gotten 2!!) and a ham and cheese croissant along with a few drinks to enjoy a bit later. We walked. and walked. and walked until we finally made it to the park across the street from the painted ladies. Full House anyone? We had our Tartine picnic right across the street with the view of the beautiful victorian houses. Seriously. I can still taste the amazing croissants  Now if only I could have some here…

On our walk back from the park we went through Hayes Valley. I loved it there!  The shops, some restaurants and a macaron store, plus the tree lined streets…it was great. {This trip I fell in love with macarons. I couldn’t get enough. I tried one everywhere I could.} We walked into Chantal Guillon and I instantly knew I had to have some treats. I wound up ordering six but had I known just how incredible they were I would have ordered 2 dozen. No seriously.

Imagefrom left to right: espresso coffee {yummy. good coffee flavor} raspberry lychee {delicious. so light and refreshing} salted caramel {outstanding. the middle was caramel.} coconut lime {yummy. I’m not usually a coconut person but this was good.} passion fruit {delicious! I love the flavor of passion fruit.} dark chocolate yuzu {so yummy. what a great flavor pairing}

When we were in the Ferry Building exploring all the delicious food options we came across the donuts at the end of the building. I ordered one and didn’t even realize they were vegan until I had paid and read the sign. They were outstanding! Seriously the best donuts ever. Pepples Donuts are delicious! I had a salted caramel one and it rocked. I couldn’t stop thinking about these donuts and on Sunday when we were walking from brunch to Tartine we happened to walk past a bake sale and they had the donuts! I was one happy girl. I had lemon poppyseed the second time around. Equally as delicious, really yummy lemon flavor.  Apparently they are open 7 days a week at the Ferry Building. Had I known this I would have been there daily for a donut. Probably better that I didn’t 🙂

Writing this I think that perhaps most of our trip was centered around food! Good thing we both like to eat. And walk…

Our first day we wanted to grab lunch but nothing heavy or crazy. We found ourselves at Wayfare Tavern {Tyler Florence’s restaurant} and we snagged some seats at the bar. We had a light lunch complete with his melt in your mouth popovers. Oh my god. They were so good! We ordered the tartare and the brussle sprouts and the poutine. I had the iced tea which came with a scoop of lemon sorbet in it and a pomegranate simple syrup {best iced tea I have EVER had.} the boy, ahem, the husband, had a local beer. Everything here was wonderful. We could see into the kitchen. Our server was awesome. It was the perfect light(ish) lunch before we went exploring. I wanted to go back for a full meal but there were so many places to see and eat that we never went back. I would certainly go when we fly back to SF!

Have I made your stomach growl? Have you drooled yet? If so then I’ve done my job! More food reviews to come….

enjoy the rest of your weekend….Go ILLINI!

Oh Hello…

Whoops. It’s already March…how did that happen? I am fairly certain I start off every month saying something like that 🙂 I’d like to know where time goes. I know that I still need to do a San Francisco post (or 2) so I’m hoping that I’ll have those up by this weekend. For now though? This delicious little cocktail appeared in our kitchen tonight and I must say…it’s a keeper. Super yummy. Somewhat healthy (right? It’s fresh juice and all!) Perfect for relaxing at home with your feet up.

mmm

Grapefruit Squeeze

juice of two grapefruits
1/4 cup of vodka
a handful of ice
italian sparkling water

mix first three ingredients together in a shaker. shake (great time to get out that aggression from the day. what? that never happens to you?)

I served these in little mason jars…
fill 1/3 of the way with mineral water and top with grapefruit juice mixture.

small and mighty drinks. eventually they’ll pack a punch. this made 5 drinks!

Crafty Pants

the bug has hit me…the crafty pants bug that is. I’m having entirely too much fun creating things {cards, project life layout ideas and so much more} I can’t wait until I dig into my project life album but for now I’ve been having some fun with my new embosser. do you have one? I think I’ve been looking at it for years at Paper Source. I finally stepped up and bought one {because now we have one here in Denver!!}  and now I want to emboss everything in my house. luckily I haven’t gotten to that point yet but check back with me next week, you never know. let’s back up a minute and talk about just how happy I am that Paper Source opened up. I may or may not have squealed very loudly when I drove past and saw that they were opening up. then I may or may not have done a happy dance when I first stepped inside. and now…well now I like to go in when I’m grumpy or having a bad day. it’s my happy place .yep. that’s right. ok back to my crafty pants rambling…

I signed up to be a part of a handmade valentine swap-what could be more fun than getting mail from other crafty pants people?! Lyndsey set it all up and my job was to create 4 valentines and to mail them out by the 7th of the month. since I couldn’t sleep tonight they’re all done! want a sneak peek? can’t wait to see what I get. I’ll post my goodies when they arrive. Happy Friday…or should I say Saturday?

Friday Recap

1. New job this week! So much fun. I love working with kids and teaching them new things. Their faces when something clicks is just priceless. Plus who wouldn’t love playing with play doh, shaving cream, crayons and markers?

2. It is FINALLY cool! I had my first hot coffee drink in months. AND it was a pumpkin spice latte with whip. Pure bliss.

3. On my way home from teaching a class on Wednesday I randomly drove by the farmers market area to happily see that there was a market. Then I bought peaches, apples, green beans, cucumbers and tomatoes. Yum. I love the produce during summer time. I am 100% ready for fall weather but NOT loosing the produce.

4. Current food obsession: Bruschetta. I can not get enough. And the bruschetta scene in Julie and Julia always makes me smile.

5. Current tv obsession: Friends on Nick at Nite. So much happiness. And so many laughs tonight. I’ll win at Friends trivia one day (ahem…)

6. We’ve survived a week of being a one car family. And we’re both still alive and kicking. Phew.

7. Four day work weeks rock. Spending Monday by the pool and continuing our great weekend was wonderful.

8. I’m determined to make a pie tomorrow. With pie crust from scratch.

9. Current Beer Obsession: Chainbreaker White IPA from Deschutes Brewery (so yummy and I’m not an IPA fan usually.)

10. I used our mandoline tonight to slice potatoes to grill in foil packets. AND I successfully managed to do so and keep all of my fingers in tact. Woohoo!

11. Are you ready for some football?! I’m so excited that football season is back. Go Bears!

Hope you have a great weekend 🙂 I plan on soaking up the sun, hitting the farmers market and hanging with the husband and friends. What are you up to?

Hello September!

Wow. I can’t believe that it’s September already! What an amazing month August was! Wedding–most magical day ever. Being surrounded by so many people who love us was the best feeling ever. Plus I married someone pretty awesome! Honeymoon–so relaxing. I’m so glad we abandoned any ideas of traveling through Europe or exploring Belize. We have time to do those things and laying on the beach or by the pool in Mexico with not a care in the world was exactly what we needed. Endless blue skies, turquoise water and powdery sand. Pure awesomeness.

We rang in the first day of September with a barbecue at our house. Nothing fancy, just hot dogs and burgers, beer and great friends. And s’mores. You can’t possibly have a party without a fire pit and s’mores. There was even singing around the fire pit which made it that much more special. We certainly have some great friends.

I hope you’re having a relaxing last weekend of summer (where did it go?!) Although, I would be lying if I said I was sad. I am beyond excited for football and chili, pumpkin spiced lattes, changing leaves in the mountains, boots, hoodies and beanies. Yay Fall!

I’ll leave you with a peek from Zach and Michelle (Our INCREDIBLE photographers) that they’ve posted on their blog (scroll down, we’re part of a featured post!) They snapped the most beautiful wedding photos. EVER.

See you soon! Happy September to all!
